'Rethinking TV - Do you want to change the way we view television'?

 

The TV Triangle is really pleased to announce the Out of the Box TV hackathon event for 22nd-24th March.  This exciting weekend event is open to teams of up to four people, as well as individuals, including technologists, developers, designers, creatives and entrepreneurs looking to redefine how the set-top box, connected television, tablet or smartphone can create a new kind of viewing experience.We welcome teams from companies or agencies of any size, and will aim to group other individuals according to their experience.

 

Participants can bring along their own equipment, resources and ideas. With the help of key industry partners, we will also provide them with access to an unrivalled range of television devices and displays with which to test and demonstrate their creative thinking  With the help of key industry partners such as Freeview, Humax, Showcaster, informitv and Decipher, we will also provide them with access to an unrivalled range of television devices and displays with which to test and demonstrate their creative thinking. Participating groups will then put together a demonstration over the weekend to show off their skills and imagination to television industry experts including representatives of Google, Channel4 and Easel TV, Chaired by William Cooper of informitv.  (Meet the judging panel here). Brief

The general objective is to show how you would change the television viewing experience. We are not looking for ideas for programmes or channels, but you may have ideas about how we will watch television in the future, in terms of content, presentation or interaction. A specific brief will be announced at the start of the weekend. Presentations will be judged on how well they respond to this brief.

 

Where It's Happening!

clubworkspacesmallWorking space, and meeting rooms will be provided by iBurbia Studios (pictured above) and Club Workspace (pictured left) at the heart of the TV Triangle in Chiswick. You can bring along anything you can carry to help you develop and present your concept. Mains power and wireless internet access will be provided. Big screens and sound systems will be available for presentation. You will also have access to the various products and platforms available for evaluation at iBurbia Studios in Chiswick, including different set-top boxes and screens, with satellite, cable and terrestrial television feeds and broadband services.

The weekend will be interspersed with social and learning events. Great food will be provided throughout the event and influential industry mentors will be on hand to provide advice and feedback. There will be prizes for the best demonstrations. Participants

Teams and individuals can take part. You may be able to join a team on the day, but we also encourage you to form a group in advance. You may represent one or more companies, or you can take part in your own right.

Workshop

You will have the weekend to work on your idea and get feedback from industry mentors. You will be able to prepare your pitch and demonstration, taking advantage of the facilities provided. Food will be provided, if you do not want to interrupt your work. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants nearby it you do.

Presentation

On the final day of the event, individuals or teams or individuals will invited to present their concept or demonstration to their peers and a panel of judges.

Presentations can be in any form, making use of the facilities available at iBurbia Studios and Club Workspace.  Each presentation will be strictly limited to ten minutes and should cover at least:

  • What is the issue it seeks to address?
  • How does it work in general terms?
  • Why it is new or different?
  • Who will use it, where and when?

 This event is a not for profit inititative put on by the TV Triangle to foster interaction between companies, universities and other organisations wanting to drive innovation on a non-competitive basis.It is not to be missed.
